Privacy Policy

TuitionKhata · Last updated 12 September 2026

TuitionKhata keeps your records on your own phone. We do not run a server, we do not have an account system for your data, and we cannot read your students, fees or payments.

This policy explains what the app stores, the few cases where information leaves your device, and what choices you have. It applies to the TuitionKhata Android app published on Google Play.

The short version

What the app stores on your device

The app keeps a database in its private storage area, which other apps cannot read. It contains what you type in:

This information stays on the phone unless you deliberately export it, back it up, or share it. Uninstalling the app deletes it, so keep a backup first if you want to move to a new phone.

Permissions, and why each is asked for

PermissionWhy
Contacts Only if you choose “Import from contacts”. The app reads names and phone numbers so you can pick students, and copies only the ones you select into its own database. Your contacts are never uploaded anywhere.
Notifications To remind you locally when fees fall due. These are generated on your phone. No push messages are sent from any server.
Run at startup So a scheduled reminder still works after you restart your phone.
Photos / files Only when you pick a student photo, import a spreadsheet, or choose where to save an export or backup. The app sees only the file you pick.

The app explicitly blocks the SMS, call log, microphone and contact-writing permissions. It cannot read your messages or your calls.

When information leaves your phone

There are only three occasions, and you start all three.

1. Google Drive backup (optional)

If you sign in with Google and turn on backup, the app uploads a backup file to the appDataFolder of your own Google Drive. This is a hidden, app-private folder: only TuitionKhata can see it, and other apps cannot. The app requests just one Drive permission, drive.appdata, which gives it no access to the rest of your Drive.

The backup goes to your Drive, under your Google account. We never receive it and cannot read it. Signing in exists only to enable this. You can turn it off, sign out, or delete the file from your Google account at any time.

2. WhatsApp reminders and receipts

When you send a reminder or share a receipt, the app opens WhatsApp — or whichever app you pick — with the message prepared. You press send. The app has no WhatsApp account and sends nothing by itself. Once you send it, the message is handled under WhatsApp's own privacy policy.

3. Exports and backup files you create

Excel exports, PDF receipts and backup archives are created on your phone. Where they go next is entirely your choice.

Subscriptions

TuitionKhata Pro is sold through Google Play's billing system. Your payment is handled by Google — we never see your card or payment details. The app receives only whether a subscription is currently active. Google's handling of that transaction is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

If a subscription ends, your records are not locked or deleted. The app becomes read-only for new entries, and you can still open and export everything.

Advertising

The free version of the app shows a small advertisement. At present this is only a promotion for TuitionKhata Pro, shown by the app itself, with no third-party advertising network involved and no data collected.

If we later introduce ads served by Google AdMob, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and it will say what AdMob collects and how to opt out of personalised ads. Your ledger data would not be shared with advertisers in any case.

Analytics and crash reports

The app currently includes no analytics and no crash-reporting service. It does not track how you use it.

If we later add crash reporting or basic usage statistics to improve the app, this policy will be updated first, and such data would never include your students, fees or payment records.

Children

The app is made for tutors, not for children, and is not directed at anyone under 13. Tutors may record details about students who are minors. Those records stay on the tutor's own device under the tutor's control, exactly like a paper register, and we never receive them. If you record information about a minor, you are responsible for handling it lawfully and for having the consent you need from a parent or guardian.

Your choices

Data deletion

Because your records live on your own device and, if you choose, in your own Google Drive, there is no account for us to delete and no copy of your data for us to erase. Uninstalling the app and removing its Drive folder removes everything.

Security

Your data sits in the app's private storage, which Android keeps separate from other apps. Drive backups travel over an encrypted connection and are stored in your Google account under Google's protections. No system is perfect, so keep your phone locked with a screen lock, and keep a backup somewhere you trust.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date at the top. Significant changes — particularly any new collection of data — will be described in the app's release notes.
